Bringing care back to Downtown.
A locally owned walk-in clinic, founded in 2013 on St. Louis Street, across from the old Lourdes campus.

Sixty years of care, then a gap.
For more than sixty years, Our Lady of Lourdes anchored the neighborhood between Downtown and the UL campus. Families in the Saint Streets, Freetown and Downtown could walk to the doctor. In July 2011, the hospital moved out of its St. Landry Street campus, and the care that had always been close by went with it.
Dr. Paul Azar III and Shane LaHood, both born and raised in Lafayette, saw the gap and filled it. They opened ExpressMED across the street from the old campus in the summer of 2013. Today it is still locally owned, and in 2024, 2025 and 2026 readers of The Acadiana Advocate voted it the best urgent care and walk-in clinic in Acadiana.

Dr. Paul J. Azar III, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Azar grew up in Lafayette and came home to help bring care back to the heart of the city. A cum laude graduate of UL Lafayette, he earned his medical degree and a master's degree at LSU and trained in pathology at Mount Sinai in New York. In 2013 he and Shane LaHood opened ExpressMED on St. Louis Street. His belief that Downtown deserves care close to home still guides every visit.
